A McKinney man has been convicted and sentenced for trying to kill his own young son in a failed murder suicide.
Kendall Thigpen-Watkins, 34, has been sentenced to life in prison after a Collin County jury found him guilty of the attempted capital murder of a child. In June of last year, Thigpen-Watkins tried to hang himself and his 8-year-old son.
McKinney Police had been made aware of Thigpen-Watkins' suicidal threats and broke down the door of his home on the far west side of the city. Both father and child were unconscious, hanging from the home's baluster. Police cut both down and revived them.
The child has recovered with no permanent physical injuries. Thigpen-Watkins will be 88 years old before he even qualifies for parole.
