MedStar is now accepting nominations for a special, spooky opportunity.
Two MedStar ambulance crews are taking a couple of local children trick-or-treating for Halloween. And this opportunity is very special, because it’s for kids who wouldn’t normally be able to go due to medical restrictions.
"It is so uplifting and so rewarding," says Matt Zavadsky, MedStar Chief Transformation Officer. "In every case, it's been the first time that a family has been able to go out trick or treating with their entire family."

Zavadsky says everyone goes all out, the ambulance crews dress in costume and even deck out the rigs in spooky decorations.
"We are creating lasting memories," Zavadsky says. "These kids have significant medical issues, and sadly most of the children that we've taken on these events are no longer with us. We still get emails and messages from family members saying what an incredible experience it was, and thanking us for that memory."
Two kids will be taken out in separate ambulances.
To be eligible, nominees must be between the ages of 5 and 15 and have a medical condition that requires an ambulance crew and stretcher in order to trick-or-treat.
The nomination deadline is Oct. 18, and the event itself will take place Oct. 30 between 6 and 9 p.m.
Nominations can be submitted online at MedStar911.org
