MedStar Ambulatory Service says 2022 is starting off on the right foot. Crews treated fewer injuries as the calendar turned to the new year than they did a year ago.

Last year, MedStar said crews responded to 103 car crashes from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day. This year that number was only 62. They also responded to six times the number of shootings and stabbings last year.

"[They] would lead us to suspect that people really stayed home, enjoyed the holiday with family and ushered in the new year in a very safe environment," MedStar spokesperson Matt Zavadsky said.

On the other hand, MedStar responded to more reports of assault this year than each of the last two years.
