MESQUITE (1080 KRLD)- Police in Mesquite will pay you in exchange for your guns.

The department is holding a gun buy-back event on June 22nd, that is a week from Saturday. Mesquite police say every gun turned in is one less gun on the street that could be used in a violent crime.

They are offering $100 for handguns and $150 for long guns or ghost guns. They say they reserve the right to refuse any firearms that don't meet ATF standards. There will be a limit of five firearms they are willing to accept per person. Walk-ups are not allowed due to safety and they ask those surrendering weapons to remain in their vehicles at all times and follow staff instructions on-site.

The event will take place at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service at Interstate 20 and Lumley Road in Mesquite. Police say they will not ask questions about who owns the guns or where they came from. Anyone can anonymously turn over unwanted firearms and receive gift cards for turning in firearms, subject to availability.
