MESQUITE (1080 KRLD)- Mesquite police say a 9-month-old girl was starved to death. Now police have arrested both her parents.

Friday police got a call that someone was trying to perform CPR on a child at a home on Byrd Drive. When members of the Mesquite Fire Department got to the house, they quickly realized the child was dead, and appeared to be extremely malnourished.

Police arrested her father, 22-year-old Leon Johnson. Their investigation also led officers to arrest the girl's mother 23-year-old Destiny Avila. The two shared custody of the baby and police say she was clearly in medical distress in the weeks before her death.

Investigators say their inaction led to their baby starving to death. Now, both are charged with Capital Murder of a Person Under 10 Years of Age.
