In 2017, Michelle Black's husband, Bryan, was one of four Americans killed when their Green Beret team was ambushed in Niger, Africa. It was the largest loss of American life on the African continent since the Battle of Mogadishu.

In trying to learn more about the circumstances that led to her husband's death, Michelle Black said she was lied to and stonewalled in her quest for information. In her new book, "Sacrifice: The Green Berets, a Fateful Ambush and a Gold Star Widow's Fight for the Truth," Black shares her family's tragic story, her push for answers and her efforts to help other Gold Star families, who have had loved ones killed in action.

Black created a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization called Soldiers Alliance to advocate for Gold Star families.  She told KRLD News her main goal is to work on solutions to bring transparency to military investigations through policy changes.

Michelle Black is scheduled for a meet-and-greet to sign copies of her book at the Celebrity Softball Classic at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Saturday, June 10. The game raises money for veterans' services. The gates open at 5 p.m. Saturday, with the Celebrity game set for 7 p.m.

Black discussed her story, her efforts for other Gold Star families and the new book with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
