The federal government is sending money to North Texas schools to target specific safety concerns. The hope is that it will help prevent mass shootings.

More than a million dollars in federal grant money is going to help improve school safety in North Texas.

The Fort Worth, Farmersville and Lake Worth school districts are each getting more than $250,000 in funding for mental health services and safety resources. This can include school counseling, increased safety training and campus threat assessments.

The money is coming from Department of Justice programs authorized after the deadly elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. The goal is to help prevent violence in schools, especially mass shootings.

KRLD news has reached out to each district receiving the funding but has not heard back for comment.
