Dallas (1080 KRLD) - The Texas Supreme Court is weighing in on a fight over a new way teachers are evaluated.
The National Education Association is suing the Dallas Schools and the Texas Education Association commissioner over a scorecard used to evaluate teachers. The scorecards can affect pay and the teachers say they need time to file grievances. The trouble is the scorecards aren't delivered to the teachers until the next school year.
Attorney Giana Ortiz argued to the Supreme Court it's past the time to file grievances.
But School District attorney Carlos Lopez argued the time to challenge the new method in its entirety was when it was passed, not now.
The Texas Supreme court did not get into whether the new rules are constitutional rather it said the teachers did file their grievance in a timely manner setting up an argument over the rules at a later date.
