Big Sandy (1080 KRLD) - A number of high schools had graduation ceremonies this weekend, but Big Sandy had perhaps the most unique graduate and it seems appropriate it comes on Memorial Day weekend.
At 99-years-old, Dr. Jack Hetzel was born on November 18th, 1921, in West Monroe Louisiana. A World War Two veteran, Dr. Hetzel fought at the Battle of the Buldge in Normandy.
Dr. Hetzel told KETK television that the one thing he's wanted for a long time is his high school diploma which he finally received Friday night.
"I have longed to get this diploma since 1948 when I passed my GED but the school that I have attended I'd only attended the third grade and they didn't have any record of me so I then couldn't get a diploma from that school," said Dr. Hetzel.
Dr. Hetzel's the pastor at the United Methodist Church in Big Sandy and will celebrate his 100th birthday this fall.
