Tuesday is the first full day on the job for new Denton Police Chief Doug Shoemaker, who was formally sworn in Monday afternoon with the oath of office administered by Denton municipal judge Tyler Atkinson.
In August, Shoemaker was hired from Grand Junction, Colorado, where he'd been police chief since 2018.
Shoemaker was hired following a nationwide search that produced nearly three dozen applicants.
He takes over from former Chief Frank Dixon, who was appointed to be Denton's Assistant City Manager and Director of Public Safety in March.
Today was the day when I began my journey with the @DENTONPD as their new police chief.

To say people have been welcoming is an understatement. To say that I'm proud to work with so many professionals who are proud of what they do?
