Non-profit offering incentives to landlords who accept previously homeless tenants

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A non-profit in North Texas is offering incentives for landlords and property owners who agree to provide an apartment to someone who was previously homeless.

Housing Forward, previously known as the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, hopes to find 500 apartments by February 28. The organization will pay market rent for a year and $1,000 as an incentive for each signed lease.

Housing Forward says each tenant will have a case manager and wrap-around services "with the sole focus of fostering positive landlord and tenant relations and long-term housing stability."

"These tenants are the same as the folks without a voucher. The people who have the voucher are more inclined to follow the rules than other folks because they are in the program. They also have additional support from case managers, so they have job location support and other support to be successful. These tenants have brought stability to the communities they live in," landlord Marques Dragan wrote in a statement provided by Housing Forward.

Landlords and property owners can sign up for more information about the program at https://mdhadallas.jotform.com/223335113786152.

Housing Forward will host a Zoom meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 13. People can register at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMlcuqhrz8jGtRRfrQwNjUbigcZ6UfJud3Z.
