With college affordability weighing on the minds of both parents and students more than ever these days, a growing non-profit is giving families a path designed to make that secondary education more affordable and more accessible.
Modern States provides top-quality, free online college courses taught by university professors. The courses prepare students to take the corresponding CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exams. CLEP is a College Board program that allows students to earn free college credit at more than 2,900 colleges and universities, including many in Texas. As a charitable organization, Modern States pays the $89 CLEP testing fee for learners who complete its courses.
Steve Klinsky, CEO & Founder of Modern States, said with Americans owing more than $1.6 trillion in student loans, his organization gives both traditional and non-traditional students a better option in pursuing their education. More information is available at www.modernstates.org. Klinsky spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
