Another stretch of cold weather is forecast to hit North Texas late this weekend. Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service expected a cold front to arrive Saturday bringing wind gusts out of the north up to 20 miles an hour and wind chills dropping into the teens Saturday night; lows in the 20s are expected through Wednesday night.

"Really with cold weather, it's the cumulative effect on people physically," says Juliana Williams, chief advancement officer at the non-profit, OurCalling. "Cold weather is dangerous and can cause health complications and even death, but what we see is it's that additive effect of multiple cold weather stints that really start to affect people."

Because this will be the second stretch of cold weather this month, Williams says some who tried to stay at their camps last time might be more likely to seek out shelter this time.

Williams says OurCalling's greatest need right now is sweatpants. She says the organization will provide people with a change of clothes and something warm to wear.

"It is going to be dangerously cold," she says. "This next cold weather spell is supposed to be even colder than the last."

OurCalling will also have outreach teams trying to warn homeless people about the forecast. She says the organization also needs volunteers to help with outreach, sort donations and help staff the shelter. She says OurCalling hopes people will be receptive to the warnings about the cold.

"It is hard to forget being freezing just a few days, so we are hoping and praying people will respond to our street outreach teams," Williams says.
