A police officer in North Richland Hills stopped traffic on Tuesday to rescue a kitten that was trapped in the middle of the freeway.

Police got a 9-1-1 call Tuesday morning from a woman named Michelle, who said she spotted a kitten stuck on top of the concrete barrier in the middle of the express lanes of Loop 820 near Rufe Snow. She parked nearby and waited until a North Richland Hills police officer arrived on the scene.

The officer blocked traffic, got the kitten off the barrier and brought it to his patrol car.

He then turned the animal over to the 9-11 caller.

She took the kitten to the vet to get checked out. The kitten is about 8-weeks old and was not injured. The North Richland Hills police department says the animal is waiting for its "furrever" home.
