In north Fort Worth, the second stage of the nearly $2.5 billion North Tarrant Express Project ends with a ribbon cutting today.
For ten years, the project has caused freeway delays and closures on an 18-mile stretch of I-35W between I-30 and Eagle Parkway, near the Alliance Airport.
The first stage from I-30 north to Heritage Trace was completed in 2018. Now, the stretch from North Tarrant Parkway to Eagle Parkway is complete and will open today after a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting.
Drivers will find improved lanes, express toll roads and new frontage roads.
For the most part, the project was funded privately with NTE Mobility Partners putting up much of the money in exchange for the right to collect tolls for about 50 years.
