A North Texas gang accused of stealing ATMs in a series of smash-and-grab thefts is now behind bars after authorities linked them to approximately 70 crimes across multiple cities.

The thieves used a simple but effective method — breaking into convenience stores, attaching a chain from a stolen pickup truck to an ATM, and then dragging the machine, along with its cash, away into the night.

Fort Worth police noticed similarities between these crimes and other ATM thefts in Dallas, Arlington, and Grapevine. Det. Brian Raynsford told KRLD's media partner NBC 5 that law enforcement agencies worked together to compare cases, eventually identifying more than a dozen suspects.

Authorities have since rounded up the individuals, who now face charges in connection with the string of burglaries.
