North Texas departments gather at JPS to support Burleson officer

The leaders of other police and sheriff's departments in North Texas gathered at JPS Hospital Wednesday morning after the Burleson officer was shot. The Burleson police chief said the officer was stable and his injuries are not life threatening.

"This incredible tragedy, we believe and pray it's going to turn out well," Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said after leaving the hospital. "An outpouring from the community already is happening with incredible support from North Texas."

Waybourn says departments are going to the hospital to show the officer's family they have support and will be protected.

"Chief Cordell and his team in Burleson are doing an amazing job, and they will continue doing an amazing job," Waybourn says. "We, as a community, will certainly get through this, but it just reminds us of the day-to-day danger our noble people in law enforcement see."

"[Fort Worth PD] is praying for the Burleson Police Officer who shot multiple times this morning. Please join us in praying for him, his loved ones, @BurlesonPolice and @BurlesonChief Cordell," Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes tweeted.

Al Jones, Arlington police chief, said he and his command staff went to JPS Wednesday morning. He says they also had members of the department at Burleson police headquarters to offer "any and all support to help their team."
