Federal prosecutors say a North Texas medical lab owner could go to prison for scamming Medicare out of $1.7 million.
Prosecutors say JDS Labs submitted nearly $4 million worth of claims to Medicare for over-the-counter COVID-19 tests, and actually got $1.7 million from the program.
Prosecutors say the bills were phony and that company owner Damon Heath Roberts of Plano worked with several people to get access to patient information so he could submit the claims.
Court documents also say Roberts also offered those people kick-backs for providing the information and paid nearly $150,000 in kick-backs and bribes as part of his scheme.
Roberts pled guilty to federal criminal charges and could face up to five years in prison.
