Spring (1080 KRLD)- The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is out with a preliminary report on last month's fiery accident involving a Tesla in Spring, Texas that killed both people inside.
According to the report - home security camera footage shows the owner get in the driver's seat and drive about 500 feet before crashing. A fire broke out after the crash damaged the front of the car's lithium-ion battery case. The fire destroyed the electric car, both men inside were killed.
The Tesla was equipped with Autopilot, but the NTSB says part of the system wasn't available on that part of the road.
Police initially said nobody was behind the wheel when it crashed, leading some to speculate the car was in autopilot mode. Elon Musk disputed those claims.
The NTSB says it's still investigating the crash.
