The number of COVID-19 patients in North Texas hospitals has started moving back up, and Dallas County health experts are trying to figure out how to convince more people to get the vaccine.
Officials say about 58 percent of Dallas County residents have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
Dallas County Health director Dr. Phil Huang says Fair Park has still been the busiest vaccine site there, but that'll shut down on July 17th to get ready for the State Fair of Texas, so he's doing more outreach to convince people to go to their pharmacy or a smaller site.
The number of COVID-19 infected patients at hospitals in North Texas has increased by about 150 over the past month.
Dallas County Commissioner JJ Koch says they should be working more on outreach before the delta variant becomes more common.
Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja says hospitalizations are up throughout the region, with 174 currently hospitalized in Tarrant County alone. And the case rate, which had been as low as 22 per 100,000, is now up to 30 per 100,000. Taneja says these numbers show that we are by no means in the clear, and it' is more important than ever to get vaccinated.
Dr. Huang says they're working with the State Fair of Texas to see if they can continue to operate a smaller clinic at Fair Park during the event.
