Plano police fired upon while trying to serve warrant

PLANO (1080 KRLD)- Plano police say a suspect fired at officers as he tried to escape arrest Tuesday morning. Plano SWAT had arrived at the house near Spring Creek Pkwy and Green Oaks Dr about 6 a.m. to serve a "hazardous warrant."

Police say the suspect ran out of the house.

"A couple of our SWAT officers gave chase, attempting to stop him, when the suspect then turned around and fired a handgun at them," says Officer David Tilley.

Tilley says no officers were hurt. One officer returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to the hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

"We're still doing an investigation," Tilley says. "We're dealing with an officer-involved shooting, so we have our crimes against persons unit out here as well as the Collin County District Attorney's office."

Spring Creek Parkway was expected to stay closed between Custer and Alma into early afternoon.

The shooting was the second officer-involved shooting in Plano in three days. Sunday, an officer shot and killed a man who walked into Plano Police headquarters and started firing a gun.

Two people in the lobby to cover, and officers who heard the gunfire responded. One officer shot and killed the suspect.

In that case, police say the suspect had killed a Lyft driver in Garland before going to the police station in Plano. The FBI is investigating that case, saying the suspect in that case may have been inspired by terrorist organizations.
