Arlington Police shot and killed a suspect at a motel early Wednesday morning. They were called to the motel on Collins across from AT&T Stadium about 1 a.m. when someone reported a person banging on doors and yelling for help.

Police say the clerk had locked himself inside the office, and they heard fighting and someone yelling for help on an upper floor. They figured out which room, forced their way inside and found one man holding another at knife-point.

"The victim was attempting to keep the knife away from himself while still yelling for help," says Lieutenant Courtney White.

White says the man refused orders to drop the knife, so two officers fired. The suspect died at the hospital; the victim survived and was released from the hospital Wednesday morning.

"It appears the victim and suspect did not know each other," she says.

White says the two officers have been with Arlington Police for two and six years. She says they started giving first aid until paramedics arrived. The two officers have been placed on leave for the investigations by the homicide and internal affairs units.

"I just want to make it clear in this particular situation, officers did exactly what they needed to do, which is save a victim's life," White says.

She says officers arrived just two minutes after they were first dispatched. She says they were already nearby after a call about someone throwing trash cans. White says investigators are looking at a possible connection between the two calls.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner had not confirmed the suspect's identity Wednesday afternoon. Arlington Police say he was a man in his early 30s.
