WATAUGA (1080 KRLD) - The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Watauga early Thursday morning.
Police were called to a home on Oak Hill Rd. at around 12:30 a.m. on a report of a suicidal man.
Officers heard a disturbance inside the home and tried to contact the people inside that home, to no avail.
"A short time later, officers contacted the individual inside," says Police Chief Robert Parker. "Officers learned that the male inside was suicidal and had several loaded weapons and was making threats to shoot officers."
The man exited the home several times with a gun in the ensuing hours.
"At approximately 4:00 a.m., the male again exited the residence with a rifle and pointed the rifle at officers, causing the officers to be in fear for their safety and the safety of others," Chief Parker says. "Officers fired on the suspect, striking him at least one time."
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers were hurt.
The officer who opened fire is on routine paid administrative leave.
