Students are getting back into the school routine as more districts open back up this week.

One organization is working with schools and students to address learning loss that many students deal with from the summer months.

Dr. Summer Rose is the CEO of Communities in Schools of the Dallas Region.

"As we're preparing to go back to school, this is important," Dr. Rose said. "Both parents and teachers are going to be looking to see if their students are starting the year at grade level."

While it is probably a little too late, they hope that many students participated in summer enrichment programs.

The brain drain from the summer months can make it harder for students who already struggle with certain subjects.

Dr. Rose says they are reaching out to parents now.

"We really are talking to them about reestablishing their routine," she said. "We've all back kind of relaxed this summer. We've slept in a little bit, we've let the kids stay up a little bit later."

Communities in Schools of the Dallas Region partners with ten districts making up about 100 elementary, middle, and high schools.

They also try to address issues affecting students who are placed on the statewide 'at-risk' level.
