Some areas in North Texas received half a foot of snow through Thursday afternoon. Bowie, about 40 miles northwest of Fort Worth, reported six inches of snow.

The City of Denton had received 3.8 inches through 11 am.

The University of North Texas closed its flagship campus in Denton Thursday along with its campus in Frisco. The school is currently on its winter break, but residence hall move-in was extended a week to accommodate students who may not be able to return.

Some students were on campus Thursday, though.

"As soon as we woke up this morning, we were like, 'Let's go play in the snow and build a snowman!'" one student who was building a snowman with a friend outside McConnell Hall said.

"We can have fun, not just sit back at home but come out here and enjoy it," another student taking pictures said. He is originally from Nepal and says the snow reminds him of home."This is our first snow storm in Texas, actually, so I'm really enjoying it, taking pictures, videos and making memories."

Details about services available at UNT during the weather closure are available here. The spring semester begins on Monday.
