Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and state Sen. Angela Paxton have canceled their upcoming divorce trial as the couple works toward an amicable resolution, according to court records and statements from attorneys.

The public trial, which had been scheduled for June 24-26 in Collin County, was removed from the docket Tuesday. The couple, married for nearly 40 years, filed for divorce in July 2025, with Angela Paxton citing “biblical grounds” in court documents. The high-profile case drew significant attention due to the couple’s prominent roles in Texas politics.

In a joint statement Tuesday, attorneys for Ken Paxton said the parties had made substantial progress in negotiations. “The parties have made substantial progress toward an amicable resolution of all issues and remain engaged in productive discussions,” attorneys Jared Julian and Laura Roach said.

“We are optimistic that a final agreement will be reached in the near future.”

The cancellation comes as Ken Paxton, who recently won the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, focuses on the November general election. The divorce proceedings had been closely watched, with earlier stages involving multiple judge recusals, sealed records that were later unsealed, and mediation efforts.

The case originated in Collin County, where the Paxtons have long resided. While the divorce filing itself remains active, the removal of the trial setting suggests both sides prefer to settle privately rather than proceed with public proceedings.

This development marks a notable shift in what had been a contentious and very public legal matter between two influential Texas Republicans. No further details about potential settlement terms have been released, and attorneys requested privacy for the family during the ongoing process.

The story continues to evolve as the couple finalizes their resolution.
