Suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will not take the stand in his upcoming impeachment trial, according to reports.
Paxton's lead attorney Tony Buzbee has indicidated his client would not take the stand during the impeachment trial.
Whether Paxton would speak at his trial has long drawn speculation, given that he's involved in other legal battles, including claims by whistleblowers in his office.
From the Texas Tribune, one of those whistleblowers, Blake Brickman, said last month he hoped to testify in person.
The state Senate could still try to force Paxton to testify, but Buzbee's statement on the matter makes it clear they would fight that effort.
The Texas House voted to impeach Paxton in late May, accusing him of years of crime and misconduct. Much of it centers on misuse of office, including hiding an alleged affair and helping a wealthy campaign donor.
