There's a nightly curfew in El Paso county because cases of Covid-19 are skyrocketing. Hospitals there are at capacity.
The city has requested help from the department of defense. A new care site may be set up and nurses and respiratory are coming in to lend a hand.
City of Houston health authority Dr. David Persse says a plan is in place to bring patients from hotspots to other Texas cities.
He says they've had communications with the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Department of Emergency Management on "moving patients from not only El Paso, but also to potentially Lubbock, Amarillo and the Valley to Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston and trying to spread that."
He says he's been told Houston could get two to four patients a day. He is not aware if they've received any. "The plan is in place, the connections have been made. At this point it looks like the volume of patients would be very small and lets hope it stays that way. But this is Texans helping Texans. This is what we do and we're prepared for it."
