After more than a year of studies and discussions, the Plano City Council has approved a new ordinance banning short-term rentals like VRBO and Air BnB, but only in neighborhoods zoned for single-family homes.

Before the vote last night, the council heard public comments. Most of the speakers supported the ban, like Mark Pulliam who called the measure "conservative, responsive to the citizens, and safety."

Others like short-term rental host Kristin Reinecker opposed it, saying "The proposed regulations are excessive, unfairly discriminatory against short-term rental owners and they pose excessive burdens on property owners."

In the end, the council approved the ordinance banning STRs in residential neighborhoods but permitting them in commercial zones with on-site management. Also, STRs that were operating before last year's then-temporary ban will be permitted to continue.
