Plano home heavily damaged from lightning-sparked fire

A Plano home has heavy damage from a fire that may have been sparked by lightning last night.

About 5:30 p.m. with thunderstorms beginning to pop up in Collin County, Plano firefighters were called to a two-story home on Harrington Drive near Highway 75 and Park Boulevard.

When they arrived, they found flames were already through the roof and commanders immediately realized it was too dangerous to send anyone inside.

Using heavy apparatus, fire crews poured huge quantities of water on from above, trying to douse the flames.

Once the fire was out, it was clear the upper level was virtually destroyed while the downstairs was heavily damaged from all the water.

Investigators have confirmed the house was struck by lightning.
