A former Plano teacher has been given a maximum sentence in a child exploitation case.

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis says 34-year-old Jacob Thomas Allred, who was a teacher at Great Lakes Academy in Plano, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on a charge of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and two charges of Sexual Performance of a Child.

Prosecutors argued that while at the private school, he began a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl that consisted of explicit and inappropriate message sent through the Discord app.

A former student shared that while she was in school, she got inappropriate messages from him.

"Teachers hold a position of special trust," said Willis in a statement. "When that trust is betrayed in such an appalling way - a male teacher preying on a 15-year-old girl - the law must respond firmly."

Willis says the maximum sentence protects children and delivers the justice victims deserve.
