A Southlake plastic surgeon with a long disciplinary history turned himself in at the Tarrant County jail Friday on a charge he violated the Texas Medical Act.
Dr. Jon Ver Halen was quickly released on a $15,000 bond.
Southlake police said detectives worked with the Texas Medical Board on the investigation.
Texas Medical Board records reveal Ver Halen's license was suspended last August after the board said his practice of medicine posed "a continuing threat to the public welfare."
Investigators found he had continued to practice medicine despite an order from June 2022 that restricted him from practicing plastic or cosmetic surgery and required him to have a chaperone anytime he performed an exam on a female patient.
In 2019, the board found Ver Halen performed a liposuction surgery without appropriate anesthesia, prescribed weight-loss drugs to 11 patients without proper exams, and prescribed controlled substances and did surgeries without keeping appropriate records.
In 2008, the board found he submitted false or misleading statements when he applied for his medical license.
Ver Halen and his attorney have not responded to requests for comment.
