A multi-agency police pursuit ended in a crash and officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning along the eastbound lanes of the President George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton, forcing major highway closures during the morning commute.

According to police, officers from Carrollton, Irving and Grand Prairie were involved in the chase, which concluded shortly after 3:30 a.m. near Old Denton Road. Investigators say spike strips were deployed and a PIT maneuver was used to stop the vehicle before it crashed on the turnpike.

Following the wreck, officers fired their weapons. Authorities said a man inside the vehicle was wounded. A woman was also believed to be in the car, though officials have not released additional details about her condition.

The Texas Department of Public Safety joined multiple local agencies at the scene to investigate. As crews processed evidence, all eastbound lanes of the turnpike and the adjacent service road remained closed from Old Denton Road to Josey Lane well into the morning rush hour, causing significant traffic delays across North Texas.

Police have not confirmed where the pursuit began or what led officers to initiate the chase. Officials also have not released the suspect’s identity, potential charges or the exact circumstances that prompted the shooting.

Officer-involved shootings are routinely reviewed by outside investigators, and authorities say more information will be released once preliminary findings are completed. No officers were reported injured.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while investigators continued working the scene.
