A North Texas man is accused of smashing into two card shops and stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of Pokémon cards, police said.
Garland police say 26-year-old Anthony Lorenzo Giron broke into TP Collectibles off South Jupiter Road on Sept. 3 and stole trading cards valued at more than $10,000, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Shop owner Thomas Pham said the actual loss was even higher. Surveillance footage captured a masked man breaking the store’s front glass and scooping cards into a bag, police said.
Six days later, on Sept. 9, Arlington police say Giron targeted SB Card Vault on East Pioneer Parkway. Officers responding to the burglary saw the store’s front door smashed and spotted a vehicle leaving the area. Police said the driver, later identified as Giron, refused to stop.
Officers later found the car crashed near New York Avenue and Daytona Lane. Giron ran from the scene but was arrested a short time later, police said. Inside the vehicle, officers recovered Pokémon cards, cash and marijuana.
Giron was booked into the Arlington City Jail on charges of burglary of a building, two counts of evading arrest, possession of marijuana and outstanding Dallas County warrants. He has since been transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
