WYLIE (1080 KRLD)- A police officer shot and killed a man while helping an injured woman this morning outside a CVS Pharmacy in Wylie.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. outside the CVS on West Kirby Street. Police say a car crashed through the side of the store, and an officer working an unrelated incident nearby responded immediately to help.
When they got to the scene, police say the officer found two people lying on the ground.
"The officer noticed the body of a female, who appeared to have suffered a serious bodily injury, lying on the ground near the scene," Wylie police said in a statement. "The officer then noticed a male with a rifle also lying on the ground near the scene."
While trying to provide medical aid to the woman, police say the officer shot and killed the man. They haven't said why.
Responding officers and EMS personnel pronounced both the man and woman dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.
Police say the woman's cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but the incident is being investigated as a murder. The Texas Rangers are expected to assist in the investigation.
Police are asking everyone to stay clear of the area for now.
