Newly released arrest records show that the body of a McKinney woman was stored in a refrigerator for over a year before being found this week.

Authorities arrested 42-year-old Chad Stevens after a search of his home turned up the body of 35-year-old Heather Schwab. Police say she had been stuffed in a refrigerator, which was hidden away from the rest of the home.

Stevens admitted to police that Schwab and he had fought and that he had killed her in July of 2022. He then panicked and hid her body.

According to the arrest affidavit, Schwab was often abusing drugs and her family had lost contact with her years earlier because of the drug usage, and the fact she would not leave Stevens who was an abusive boyfriend. It wasn't until almost a year later that Schwab's family reported her missing.

Stevens was arrested at his home Sunday and charged with tampering with evidence with the intent to impair a human corpse. A murder charge is expected.
