The Ponder ISD school board has voted for a four-day school week starting in 2025-26.

This move has already sparked interest, with many teachers inquiring about open positions.

Superintendent James Hill mentioned that, unlike last year, they've received about 30 calls from job-seeking teachers since the announcement.

This shift follows a trend in Texas, where several districts have adopted a four-day week for economic reasons.

Stagnant school funding and rising costs have made it difficult for many districts to balance their budgets.

Ponder ISD, facing teacher attrition and competition from better-paying neighboring districts, hopes this change will help retain and attract teachers.

The district is also planning for growth with new housing developments and increased student enrollment.

The four-day week aims to provide a more attractive work environment for teachers while ensuring students receive a rigorous education.
