The popular dog-friendly hangout Mutts Canine Cantina permanently closed all its Dallas-area locations Monday, June 29.
The sudden shutdown affects the flagship Uptown Dallas spot, the Fort Worth location at The Shops at Clearfork, and the Allen site. A franchised Austin location also closed. The business, which combined a dog park, bar and grill, operated for more than a decade and became a neighborhood staple for pet owners and their dogs.
FreeRange Concepts, the Dallas-based company that owns Mutts, confirmed the closure. In a statement, co-founder and CEO Kyle Noonan said the company is shifting focus to its other restaurant brands after a strong run with Mutts.
Memberships were handled through a subscription model, and affected members received details by email. Questions can be directed to muttsmembers@freerangeconcepts.com.
The Uptown Dallas location opened in 2013 and quickly gained popularity for its vibrant atmosphere, yellow benches, and social space where dogs and people could mingle. The Fort Worth outpost followed in 2018, with Allen opening in 2021. The closures leave a gap in dog-friendly entertainment options in North Texas communities.
FreeRange Concepts operates several other concepts, including Bowl & Barrel, The Rustic and Joe Leo Tex-Mex. The company said it still owns the Mutts name but has not announced future plans for the brand.
The announcement came as a surprise to many regular visitors, as the parks had been operating normally over the weekend. Social media reactions reflected a mix of fond memories and disappointment from longtime patrons who viewed Mutts as more than just a park — a true community hub.
