American Airlines passengers around the country are very unhappy this morning. Overnight, social media began to bristle with complaints and pictures showing long lines of people stuck in lines in the terminals.

Jet Blue passengers also reported similar frustrations.

According to DownDetector.com, the calls and complaints reached their peak around 4 a.m. Texas time. But the the earliest delays were reported about 2 a.m. as unhappy passengers posted complaints from multiple airports including big ones like Logan in Boston, New York's JFK and LAX in Los Angeles.

The long delays were blamed on what some reports described as a "system outage." About 4 a.m. American Airlines posted a tweet saying: "We have our teams working to help resolve this and we apologize for the issue. Updates will be provided as available."

According to American Airlines, Southlake-based Sabre Corporation, a company that operates global distribution systems such as air bookings in North America, had a system outage which reportedly was resolved around 4:45 a.m. Texas time.

American Airlines issued a statement saying: "Earlier today, Sabre had a technical issue that impacted multiple carriers, including American. This technical issue has been resolved. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."
