Nearly two years since a Mesquite police officer was murdered on the job, a number of restaurants in Mesquite, Sunnyvale and Dallas are cooperating in a fundraiser to help with the new Officer Richard Houston Memorial Highway signage.

The authorization for the signage was approved by the Texas legislature and it will designate the portion of I-635/LBJ that runs through Mesquite in officer Houston's memory.

Houston was shot and killed responding to a domestic violence incident in December of 2021.

Today's date, 8/21, was chosen for the fundraiser because 821 was Houston's badge number.

More than a dozen Mesquite restaurants and one each in Dallas and Sunnyvale are donating a portion of today's proceeds to the Mesquite Police Association Charities. A webpage has the list of participating restaurants.
