A late night attempted traffic stop resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy at the hands of San Antonio police early Friday morning.
The boy was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen, according to police, who say he sped up when they attempted to pull him over around 1:30 a.m. He then crashed into the patrol car.
One of the responding officers then shot the boy “fearing the other officer would be stuck by the suspect vehicle,” according to the police report. He was then rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive the shooting.
Police initially responded after multiple reports of gunshots in the area.
Two other juvenile suspects were not injured.
SAPD says this is an ongoing investigation.
