Parents and students at South Oak Cliff High School lined the streets outside the school and then attended a celebration on the football field to celebrate the team's state championship.

South Oak Cliff beat Liberty Hill at AT&T Stadium 23-14 to win the Class 5A-Division II football championship.

The victory was Dallas ISD's first football championship since 1958.

"It's almost unbelievable," said Nimit Muhammad, mother of cornerback Malik Muhammad, as she waited for the parade along Marsalis Avenue. "It's setting the tone and a legacy, and to know that we gave birth to history makers? Oh my God!"

"This is a very pivotal moment and a historic moment for everyone here in Dallas ISD," says Anika Maiden, mother of Myles Johnson.

Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa welcomed the crowd to the football field, saying South Oak Cliff drew 45,000 people to the game.

"Everybody was rooting for you, [South Oak Cliff], because of how hard you worked," he said. "People helped you get these facilities, and you have not wasted one thing."

Head Coach Jason Todd told the crowd his players understood how to "block out the negative."

"I just want everybody, first of all, to understand this took some commitment from these kids and these coaches, some time away from their families, sometime away when they had to sacrifice a lot," he said.

Todd said the victory represents the entire city.

"Keep this same support, not only for SOC because this is not just a SOC trophy. When you understand it, that's a Dallas trophy," he said. "It's just going to be here at 3601 [S. Marsalis, the address for South Oak Cliff High School], but this thing's about Dallas."
