
The past few days have been dangerous in North Texas with high temperatures, which we're used to. But the humidity has been unusually high, putting the Heat Index at life threatening levels.
Today's Excessive Heat Warning is due to stay in effect until Wednesday evening, but it could certainly be extended.
The criteria for an Excessive Heat Warning are temperatures of 105 or hotter with enough humidity to make the heat index 112 or higher. And it is dangerous. Even deadly.
On Sunday, Dallas Fire Rescue had three heat related emergency calls. By Monday evening, they had eight people taken to the hospital with symptoms of heat stress.
Tarrant County's MedStar had four people taken to the hospital Sunday, one was critical. On Monday, two MedStar heat patients were taken to the hospital. Both of them were taking part in Fort Worth's Juneteenth Walk with Opal Lee. Even at the age of 96, she seemed to complete the walk okay,
Today's high at DFW Airport is predicted to hit 100 - if so, it'll be the first time this year. But it certainly won't be the last.
