Sha'Carri Richardson could miss US Olympic chance for failing drug test

Sha'Carri Richardson had just won a spot on the US Olympic team by winning the 100-meter final in Eugene, Oregon last month.

Now she'll miss part of the Tokyo Olympics beginning in three weeks because a drug test from Eugene came back positive, as reported by CBS Sports which says her finish in Eugene has been disqualified from attending some events.

Richardson won't be allowed to run in the Olympic 100-meter race due to a one-month ban for a positive marijuana test, but she could compete in relays, according to reports.

At first Richardson was not saying anything to confirm or deny this but posted a cryptic three-word message on her Twitter feed saying "I Am Human."

On Friday, she went on TV and said she smoked marijuana as a way of coping with her mother's recent death.

“I was definitely triggered and blinded by emotions, blinded by badness, and hurting, and hiding hurt,” she said on “Today.” “I know I can't hide myself, so in some type of way, I was trying to hide my pain.”

Richardson rose to fame in her one year at LSU after excelling as a track star at Dallas Carter High School.

After her freshman year at Baton Rouge, she went pro and was looking forward to her first Olympics.
