One person is dead and one is injured after a shooting near Brown Middle School in Forney on Friday afternoon, officials say. Two people were arrested in connection to the shooting.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. in the 2000 block of Chisholm Trail, according to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office. Two people were taken to area hospitals in unknown condition.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting, but six Forney ISD schools were placed on "secure" for a short time, which means exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed in or out, according to the district's website.

Forney ISD said there was an "incident" in a neighborhood near Brown Middle School, after which someone drove onto school property to seek assistance. No one inside the school was impacted.

The district released pick-up instructions for parents on Friday afternoon. Parents were asked to pick up their children off Windmill Farms Boulevard, as the entrance to the school on Reeder Road was closed.

Students who walk will be released at 4 p.m. and escorted by staff and police officers to exit campus. The district said bus routes could be slightly delayed.
