Shopping mall owners filing bankruptcy, over a dozen in Texas under threat

Dallas (1080 KRLD) - One of the country's biggest shopping mall owners is filing for bankruptcy.

Washington Prime owns or operates more than a hundred shopping malls around the country including more than a dozen in Texas. It says tenants have been unable to pay their bills during the past year because of the economic hardships caused by COVID-19. It's filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and plans to keep operating.

Washington Prime owns Irving Mall, Richardson Square and the Shops at North East Mall in Hurst along with properties in Austin, San Antonio and El Paso.
