Southern Methodist University police are asking for the public's help finding a missing student last seen on campus Thursday afternoon near a residence hall.

Brianna Arango, 21, was reported missing around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a family member contacted SMU police when she failed to meet them as planned earlier in the day. She was last seen around 12:30 p.m. near Harold Simmons Hall on the university's Dallas campus.

Arango did not attend her scheduled 1 p.m. class Thursday, according to SMU police. At the time she was last seen, she was wearing a white shirt and blue sweatpants while carrying a beige tote bag.

SMU police said they are actively working to locate Arango and are treating the case as a matter of concern. The department is asking anyone in the campus community who has seen her or has information about her whereabouts to come forward immediately.

Harold Simmons Hall is located near Airline Road on SMU's campus in University Park, just north of downtown Dallas. The residence hall houses undergraduate students.

Anyone with information is urged to contact SMU Police at 214-768-3388. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's Silent Witness Program by calling 214-SMU-2TIP (214-768-2847) or online at www.smu.edu/2TIP. Anonymous reports can also be made through the SMU Aware Safety App.

SMU police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Arango's disappearance or whether they believe she is in danger. The investigation remains ongoing.

The university's campus alert system, SMU Aware, posted information about the missing student on its website and notified the campus community through its emergency notification channels.
