Parents in two north Texas school districts are voicing their concerns after district leaders announced that they will have classes on Tuesday, January 16th. The Northwest ISD and the Denton ISD will both be open today.
"We will be open and on a regular schedule in the morning. It will be cold but the roads will be fine so please take extra precautions if needed," the Denton ISD wrote on its Facebook page "We can't wait to see you on Tuesday!"
Most people posting in the comments section were not enthusiastic.
"I think this needs to be reconsidered," Patrick wrote. "The whole thing is just a bad idea. You have bad weather days set aside for a reason."
Most of the concerns from parents focused on kids waiting outside for the bus or waiting outside to get into a school.
"Buses may have heaters but walkers who get there early and have to wait for buses to arrive kids still stand outside waiting to go in," wrote Mandy.
There were similar comments on the Facebook page for the Northwest ISD.
"While roads may be in good condition, the elements will not be for walkers and bus riders that wait OUTSIDE for the bus as well as the Crossing Guards," Monica wrote.
Other parents were more direct in their comments.
"Short and sweet, my boy isn't going," Antonio wrote.
