Some flights at DFW Airport and Love Field were cancelled Wednesday as Hurricane Idalia makes landfall in Florida. Most flights at the airport were still on time, and even some destinations in Florida were still open.
At DFW Wednesday morning, some flights to Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Tampa were cancelled. Most flights to and from Orlando along with Miami and other cities along the Atlantic coast were still on time.
Some passengers arriving from Miami Wednesday morning say the pilot walked them through a change in course to avoid the hurricane.
"I think they went south and came back around," one man said while he waited at baggage claim.
"It was like, 'Hey, we're going to try to avoid this hurricane. The first few minutes might be a little hectic or bumpy,'" another said. "After that, it was smooth."
Some say they arrived in Miami on flights from the Caribbean or South America Tuesday night, but their connecting flight to DFW was cancelled, so they had to stay at hotels in Miami.
"We sat on the plane for an hour and a half and then they decided to cancel it," a man flying from the Bahamas said.
American Airlines is waiving change fees for people with flights to some cities that could be affected by the hurricane through Thursday. A complete list is available here.
