The men and women who work on the ramps for Southwest Airlines have ratified a five-year deal with the company.
Transport Workers Local 555 says the deal is unlike anything they have negotiated before. It calls for big pay raises that will net some workers $40 an hour, better healthcare, and better retirement benefits.
Union President Randy Barnes says they have been watching other contract negotiations between unions and Southwest.
Reports say 78% of the membership approved the agreement.
Southwest says, "This new labor contract rewards them for their work and places them competitively in the industry."
